Question:
Does anyone have a list of questions I should have to ask my Dr at first visit?
My Dr. Does not offer any information. But he is real good about answering any questions asked. I would like a list of things to ask him so I don't get home and think of somehting I wish I had asked. I would very much appreciate any ideas you would have for me in obtaining a list of questions to ask him. Thanks e-mail [email protected] — Cynthia S. (posted on December 1, 2001)

My doctor answered most of my questions before I even asked them. I'm sure
they pretty much know what the "usual" questions will be. I had
a couple others, though, that might be of interest to you: Would I wake up
with tubes sticking out of me; could I have a private room in the hospital;
should I stop any of my medications prior to surgery; how long should I
expect to be out of work; how does he feel about pain control; do they
perform the leak test during surgery or a couple days later; how many
procedures has be performed; what is his success rate; any mortalities? I
hope these questions help you decide what you want to know from your
surgeon. Mine was very patient and would have answered 1,000 questions if
I'd asked them. Good luck!

The first question I would ask is : Do you transect? and if he/she
doesn't I'd look for another surgeon. Without transection, the chances of
another surgery is great. Lots of staples lines disrupt and require
another surgery to fix later on down the road.

If you email me privately, I'll send you a list of questions, more from
long term perspective.

Here is a link that I hope will be helpful. It's a long list but all the
questions are relevant.
