Question:
What has been found effective in reducing the scar from the incision?
I had open RNY sugery and had the staples removed today. I am concerned that the "zipper" line will not fade enough. What products have you used that you feel were effective? — Marian H. (posted on August 10, 2001)

Vit. E is a great natural healer and scar reducer, it is even used at the
best burn centers, When I had a C sec, I opened the liquid capsule w/ a pin
and put it on my scar. Even my dr. was surprised at my 6 week check up!!
He asked my how I did it. Good Luck

Marian, I had my surgery 7/17/01. My surgeon recommended vitamin E oil to
help heal and reduce scarring. I was told to put it on even before the
staples were removed. It sure made a difference when the staples came
out... only felt 2 of the 23 staples removed. Walmart sells a 2 oz bottle
for less than $4. A lot easier than trying to open capsules. I just use a
Q-tip to apply it. Anyone who has staples still in should dab it on as so
not to get the fibers in the wound. It also helps with the itching you'll
feel as you're healing. I am 4 wks post-op on Tues and still aply vit. E
daily to my scar. Good luck to you.
