Question:
Has anyone been over 500 lbs having the surgery?
I have my surgery scheduled for July 20th and am very excited but I am getting scared because I can't seem to find anyone who is over 450 lbs. It would help me so much mentally to find someone at a similar weight as mine prior to the surgery to know the outcome and how safe. So if anyone has been 500 lbs or above and had the surgery please please write. [email protected] — Monica F. (posted on June 14, 2001)

Hi Monica! I "met" a man on this website (obesityhelp.com) in
the "chat room" who had the surgery 4 years ago. He weighed 530
pounds at the time. Now weighs 300 lbs. on a 6'8" frame! Healthy and
a hiking fool! LOL! He encouraged me to continue to pursue my own
surgery. Said it was the best decision he'd ever made in his life, that it
was life-changing. He told me that everyone who used to think he was a
"big loser" now thinks he's a WINNAH!!! You GO for it, girl!
And don't look back!

Yes, of course! A man in my support group weighed over 500 lbs and had his
surgery the first of last year (2003), Ray is down to 168 lbs now and
looking forward to getting his extra skin off. Not everyone looses that
fast...another man in our support group weighed 800 lbs, had to loose 200
lbs before they would do surgery...he had it last week...have not seen him
since, but got the word that is was doing fine and would be at our meeting
in April.

Hi Monica,
I was quite over 450 lbs, but darn close. I had surgery on 5-19-03 and the
day of my consultation weighed 436 lbs. The day of surgery I weighed 421
lbs.
As of today, I'm 257 lbs. That's down 164 lbs since surgery day. (I'm
almost 10 months post op). I still have a ways to go, I would like to get
under 200 lbs (I'm 5'11.) , but I do believe I'm going to make it ;)
I havent had ANY complications, and it's truly the best thing I ever did.
I don't regret it, don't miss a thing, and i'm currently working out daily,
and walking 3 miles a day. Life is good :)
Feel free to email me if I can help in any way.
