Question:
I am 3 weeks post op and experienced some sever pain in the lower part of my incision
I did follow up and see my doctor a few hours following the pain episode and he suggested a possible adhesion or "healing pain". Has anyone had pain that is similar to a "stabbing" sensation in this area? My incision is healed and staple free, I have not lifted anything over the specified weight, and I have been extremely careful to ensure I have not done anything to apply direct pressure to my abdomen. I am hoping I am not alone on this one! — Sonya S. (posted on April 25, 2001)

I understand this feeling all too well. After about 3 weeks I started
getting pain under my ribs and in my abdomen. I thought something was
terribly wrong because it hurt so bad. When I talked with the nurse at my
surgeon's office, she had told me that what I was feeling was normal and
that it will eventually subside. She said it's just my body getting used
to the new stomach and the organs and muscles moving themselves back into
place from having them moved under the ribs to make room to perform the
surgery. So, unless you notice any bruising or oozing from the incision
site, you should be okay and it will get less painful and less frequent
within the next few months. I'm 4 months out and only get this pain maybe
once every other week and it's no where near as severe as it used to be.
One thing I was told that will help speed up the healing process is to make
sure you're getting in enough water. Good luck and God Bless! Andrea
