Question:
Did Medicaid of Florida approve for the surgery?

I want to know if anyone in the state of Florida was approve by medicaid for this surgery? I want to know do they put you through the same thing the other insurance does?? Please let me know...    — Lisa L. (posted on December 14, 1999)

YES!!!!!!!! If Gastric Bypass surgery is a Medical Necessity for you, yes, they will pay for it. I did not have medicaid myself, but I know two women that did have the surgery and they did have medicaid pay for it. You need to have a good Primary Care Doctor that will help you. Hi, just wanted to let you know, I do not live in Florida, but I do live in Virginia and I am on Medicaid. Medicaid did pay for all but $100 of my surgery. In Virginia, I had no problem getting approval as a matter of fact they approved the surgery in less than a day. The received my information on a Monday morning and by Monday afternoon already had an answer. Make sure you document all of you weight loss attempts, get all your medical records together...do as much of the work as you can prior to getting anything submitted. Yes! I used to live in South Florida (Fort Lauderdale area) I was on medicade for a short period of time, and was about to resort to having my surgery thru medicade while I was unemployed, but immediately got a contract job with excellent benefits, was approved and had the surgery covered by Blue Cross Blue Shield of FL. The thing with medicade though ... is a general surgeon would've done the surgery rather than one who specializes in Weight Loss Surgery. I am glad I happened to get insurance and was able to have my surgery done by a doctor who specializes only in this surgery.

Medicaid does pay for the surgery in Fl.Some insurance co. contract for medicaid. United healthcare is good.
