Question:
There are no doctors in my area and I need to find one in the Midwest.
I have a fear of doctors and really need one that is exceptionally patient and kind. — Carol H. (posted on November 23, 1999)

Hi , Carol I am not from the midwest, but was wondering if
you clicked on your state, or neighboring states to see
who was listed there. Maybe you could start with those
people. Good Luck, In Christs love, Carin

Hi Carol: I thought I had already answered your question, but I don't see
it. Anyway, I live only about an hour away from the Kansas City area, and
I have chosen to go to Indianapolis, IN to have my surgery done. As far as
I have been able to find, there are NO board-certified bariatric surgeons
in all of the state of Kansas, and NONE (that I know about) in the Kansas
City area in Missouri. The first answer was a good one: go the state of
Missouri and find board-certified ones there. There is one in Columbia,
Wentzvill, and St. Louis. Also, there is a reknown program at Iowa City,
IA at the University of Iowa. My choice was made upon several logistic
factors and also, reading the various remarks of patients regarding the
various surgeons in the surrounding areas. For myself, I would not
considered any surgeon other than a bariatric board-certified one. I know
some surgeries have been performed in the KC area, but none by
board-certified, to the best of my knowledge. If I am incorrect, someone,
please let me know. Carol, if I can provide any assistance to you, email
me at: [email protected] Good Luck in your quest!

There are 6 board certified surgeons in Missouri. Go to
www.asbs.org/index/shtml and follow the "road" for whatever state
you want surgery in. They will tell you which doctors are members. Good
luck.
