Question:
Is there something wrong with me?
Occasionally I have eating things that I know I shouldn't have eating, but at 4 1/2 weeks is it normal to vomit after eating certain foods. The foods that have made me vomit are 1 french fry, 1 bite of rice from Taco Bell, 1 small piece of ham, 1 bite of a chicken nugget. I know I should only eat purred, but I can't imagine that in 1 1/2 weeks I will be able to eat anything. Will it get better in time or do you think there is something wrong? By the way I take very small bites and chew a lot! Please help!! — robyn H. (posted on January 2, 2004)

I am 15 months post op and still cannot tolerate Chinese food. Before
surgery the buffet places trembled at the site of me coming in, now I
can't even tolerate the taste. I miss my egg foo young but it was well
worth the loss.

Well the french fry and chicken nugget are way too much fat for 4 1/2 weeks
out. And my doctor says that prok and beef are hard to digest and not to
have any for 6-12 months. And carbs such as the rice are often too hard on
our pouches this early, I was allowed pasta/rice at 8 weeks.
And yes you will be amazed at how a week can make a difference in what you
can eat! Remember your stomach internally is still healing, that is why
you need to stick with the soft foods. I do know how you feel, I tried a
french fry too early too and paid rather quickly for it. I am 9 weeks out
now and some food still make me sick, but it gets better. A few weeks ago
I still couldn't eat scrambled eggs, but I can eat 1/2 an egg now. So give
your tummy some time to heal and stick to the soft foods for now.

Did this just start in the last few days? If you were ok with food until
now, then please see your doc about a possible stricture. You are right at
that stage (4 weeks) where it is common. Many here have had them, and it is
easily fixed in most cases. A short procedure, nice drugs, you nap that
day. No pain.

Not to bash, but the reason you are supposed to eat only pureed is so you
won't develop a sensitive stomach. If you follow the steps-- liquids,
pureed, soft foods, regular foods, then at 6 weeks or so you should be able
to tolerate most foods. But if you are eating foods not on the list, then
yeah you're gonna get sick.
