I think you should ask your nutritionist because you are going to get 20
different answers from 20 different people. Yes you can eat a
cheeseburger. Not every week, but you had the surgery to eat normally.
Don't let people tell you what you can and can't have.

I don't think it's really an issue of what you "can and cannot"
have, it's more like "What do YOU think you should be eating?"
Yes, you are able to eat that cheeseburger, but wouldn't you rather put
something much healthier into your body? This surgery was all about
reevaluation. You have to teach yourself over again how to eat better, not
"normal." Do you really want to go back down that path again? And
don't get down on yourself that you have "only lost 60 pounds."
60 pounds in 4 months is great. Just try to keep up the good work.

There is nothing wrong with eatting PART of a cheeseburger made of quality
ingredients, so as to be as lean as possible. I get 3 meals out of a
restaurant cheeseburger. I also order mine without the bun to get rid of
the carbs. I do not eat this every week but probably twice a month. I eat
normal food and keep the quantity reasonable, which is what post-op life is
all about. I have just been able to eat steak since about 6-1/2 months PO,
so I many times choose that now as it will typically be leaner, but the
occassional part of a cheeseburger just hits the spot. Enjoy but keep in
moderation!

According to your profile, your goal was to lose 125 pounds. So, if 60
pounds are gone at four months, you're nearly halfway there. Seen in that
perspective, it's hard to see what's wrong with losing 60 pounds in four
months.
If you literally received no guidelines on how to eat after
the surgery, I would urge you to do a lot of reading around this site for
the next several months. A meeting with a nutritionist might not hurt,
though personally, I'm less than impressed with nutritionists' advice to
WLS patients, *but*, you gotta start somewhere.
It would probably
help if you tracked what you were eating on fitday.com for awhile, every
day, so you get a good understanding of exactly what your calorie intake, a
protein and carb gram intake, is on a daily basis. When you hit the
six-month mark, or maybe even sooner, you will probably be able to eat a
lot more and you may well want to. That's why it's critical to figure out
a good eating plan that you can adjust once you get to goal, and live with
in the long run. Getting an exercise program going is important, too, if
you can.

You are doing GREAT - your weight loss is fantastic! Yes, you'll get every
answer under the sun here. Let me just add that it's a real turn-around in
thinking about 4 months out when you find out you can eat so many more
things than early post-op and then you start thinking well, I CAN have that
-pouch-wise-but do I really want that nutrition-wise. You'll learn the way
- a nutritionist would be a great help and you sure get varying answers
here! Enoy that 60 lb loss my friend!

I really can't say about the cheeseburger because I am pre-op and don't
feel qualified to express an opinion, but I do feel the need to say
congrats on your weight loss! Like someone else pointed out, you are
halfway to goal, that is so wonderful.
Maybe it might put it in perspective a bit for those who don't think they
are losing "fast enough" When else in your life have you been
able to lose an average of 15 pounds a month?? 60 pounds in 4 months is
awesome..if you think that is slow go to walmart and heft around a couple
25 pound bags of dog food with no cart :-)

I think as long as you are exercising and eating right most of the time, a
part of a cheese burger isn't all that bad. In my opinion I am not having
the surgery to turn myself into something I cannot live with, pretty much I
mean we are all human and will want something we really Shouldn't have from
time to time, so I say.....eat your cheeseburger & be happy!

First off, Congrates on your loss! Your doing fine. Now from researching
over the past few months since my WLS and put in from my nutritionist and
surgeon, I base my diet on Protein first, only 30gm in an hours time, as
that is all your body can obsorb in an hour. You should probably try to
get in 60-90gm a day. You can find high sources in fish, red meats,
chicken, turkey, eggs, cottage cheese, etc. Also you could try different
proten drinks,(low carb) and protein bars. Next STAY AWAY FROM white bread,
pasta, rice, potatoes. These carbs are bad for us. Fruits are a good
source of good carbs as well as veggies and salad. Keep all refined sugar
out of your diet. If you get the urge to have a small bite or two of
something you really shouldn't it is fine, just don't make it a habit. Read
your labels and learn what works for you, also ask your surgeon if he has a
prefered diet for you to follow. And most of all, don't forget to get that
water in. 64 oz. a day at the least. And Walk or do some type of exercise
everyday that you can. Keep up the good work! Open
