Question:
Does anyone else have different levels or types of dumping?
It seems weird to me that sometimes my 'dumping' is the sweats, generally feel like crap thing, and then sometimes it is nothing but urgent (green) diarrhea--sorry for the graphics. Does this sound weird? — Kimberley E. (posted on July 27, 2003)

Boy tonight I had my first experience with 'dumping'. I ate an ice cream
cone. Sure tasted good and went down SMOOOOOTH! Then I felt like I needed
to do some MAJOR burping. And I got sooooooooooooo sleepy. My tummy was
gurgling and protesting big time. I didn't feel like I would throw up. It
passed after about 20 minutes. I don't think I will try that again.

I've also experienced something similar. For me, I've noticed that I get
the sweats, chills, severe cramps AND diarrhea when I dump due to SUGAR
(usually lasts for about 15 or 20 mins.). I get only diarrhea alone (and
trust me, thats enough) when I dump due to Fat or greasy food.

Hello I've experienced different types of dumping. If I eat something too
sweet or that has too much white flour, I start sweating my heart feels
like it's going to jump out of my chest and I have trouble breathing. I've
also had dumping where I was so nauseated I had to vomit. Go figure.

Sometimes I get a headache that can only go away by laying down and
shutting my eyes for about 20 minutes. Other times, It is the unpset
stomach, headache, and sleepy all together. At the worst, bathroom time.
Carbs make me sleepy, some items made with splenda upset my stomach. Ice
cream is a no -no. Sugar free frozen yogurt for me. As time go by, I find
what to stay away from and all this happens less frequently. LAP RNY

Dumping affects me similarly. Sometimes, I have horrible gas-like cramps
and others I get sick to my stomach and still other times I get the sweats
or the shakes. There doesn't seem to be a rhyme or reason to what my
dumping symptoms are. Fortunately, I can eat small amounts of sugar and I
don't usually dump if I'm careful-- i.e. I can eat 1/2 of a kit-kat and I'm
fine. If I eat the whole kit-kat (which is oh-so-rare), watch out.

Kimberly,
I actually don't dump and feel green anymore, if anything when I eat a TON
and I mean TON of sugars, I usually just get a headache..... I'm 14 months
post op. In the beginning I couldn't touch anything with sugars, high fats,
or even high carbs, it would send me into to turning into LINDA BLAIR !
(PUKE BABY) ... How-ever since about 10 months post op, other then the mild
headache nothing else here....
I really need to reset my dump meter ! It's evil !

I've had episodes where my stomach has gurgled and I generally felt like
crap, but it passed in a half hour or so and I've had 2 really bad episodes
where I had severe gas, stomach cramps and massive diarrhea and felt like I
was going to pass out and they'd find me in the bathroom in a crumpled
mass. I've had only 2 of those really bad episodes in just short of a
year, so I'm very careful what I eat. The first bad one was after I ate
some soy protein chips and the second one was after I had eaten some fresh
cucumbers for lunch. I love cucumbers, but I approach them with great
respect these days.
