Question:
I found a yogurt that only has 7 grams sugar. It also has 7 grams protein.

However, it is also 14 grams of carbs. Is this too many carbs for yogurt? I thought I had found a good one with the low sugar, high protein but am not sure about the carbs???    — Jeannie4 (posted on July 5, 2003)

I don't think that's too many carbs. Probably depends on your nutritionist's advice -- mine doesn't limit carbs at all, just says to eat a healthy balance. Some have instructions to severely curtail all carbs for a certain time after wls.

I doubt you will find a yogurt with less carbs - most of them come from the lactose or milk sugar. I eat Blue Bunny Lite 85 - and I have no idea how many carbs. I don't actually count carbs - I just limit the starchy ones like potatoes, rice, pasta, bread, and crackers. My surgeon says the majority of our carbs should come from fruits and vegetables and that is what I do. But I don't worry about the carbs in things like yogurt or protein drinks if the sugar content is ok.

I have eaten Blue Bunny Lite 85 yogurt as well. It has 80 calories zero from fat. Potasium is 260mg, protein is 6g, carbsare 14g. The label indicates that the carbs are naturally occurring in milk and fruit contained in the yogurt. This yogurt is sweetened with Splenda. www.bluebunny.com

I was told in the hospital stay for my WLS that for some reason the sugar in yogurt doesn't make us dump like other sugars. I can eat yogurt with 23 sugars and it does nothing, but anything else with that many sugars is bad.

I DUMP on yogurt even the ones with low sugar. I dont count carbs unless its white/bad ones like bread, pasta, rice ect.... We NEED carbs so I get mine through veggies and fruits. ~Sidney~ Open RNY 10-23-02 down 100+ and counting
