Question:
I am seven months post op, and went to have my tubes tied on Monday, but it couldn't
be done because I have scar tissue and adhesions from my bypass.l Any one else hear of this? — Rockelle R. (posted on June 18, 2003)

Well... sad to say, you had either a really lousy person sew you up, or you
scar easily. I scar easily and my surgeon had to remove a ton of scar
tissue before he could even do my RNY! They CAN remove the scar tissue and
adhesions and do the surgery. I wonder why they didn't do this??

Adhesions are just part of the way bodies heal. Some have lots and it can
become very painful - some have little to none. It really isn't because of
the way your WLS surgery was done at all. The fact that your tubal
couldn't be done is actually what would make me more confused - so there
were lots of adhesions - so what - the way to tie your tubes would be to
convert to an open procedure, cut or burn the adhesions in the way, then
carry on with the tubal. Now if he thought you wouldn't have wanted an
open procedure, he may have cancelled the process, but the only other
reason I can think of would be that by releasing your adhesions he would be
stimulating your tissues to develop more adhesions, which I'm not sure is
how it works anyway.

i'm confused.... your bypass was straightforward abdominal surgery. your
tubal ligation would have been straightforward pelvic surgery. the two
areas don't intersect. there would have been some other reason... perhaps
you should request your gyn to explain more fully why he didn't complete
the surgery.
