Question:
Does hair loss occur when weight loss picks up again?

I am 8 months post op and have lost 147 lbs. I had hair loss months 3-6. Then it stopped. My weight loss slowed down too. I think it may be starting to pick up again, but I am not sure, but my hair is starting to fall out again. Does this happen when I am not getting enough protein, or when weight loss picks up again, or both?? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.    — Shavonne P. (posted on April 25, 2003)

I'm 12 months post-op and down 132 pounds (27 more to goal!) and I have had the hair loss issue a few times. I lost hair consistantly for 4 months (months 4-7) and then again at 10 months (lasted for a few weeks) and now it's been happening again for the past couple of weeks. I believe it's associated with weight loss because I take my vitamins faithfully and get more than enough protein each day. I've noticed that hair loss happens when the scale is moving. I've plateaued a few times and it seems that the hair loss starts back up once the scale starts moving again. Good luck!
