Question:
Denied public assistance for surgery, what other avenues can I pursue?
I work part time and have no insurance, welfare denied me .They said I make too much money to get a medical card. How do I go about getting assistance for surgery? — tigger15022 (posted on April 1, 2003)

Have you tried going through the Rehabilitation Commission in your state?
All states have a Rehabilitation Commission. I went through mine. You
have to prove that it is either impeding your job performance or that you
have a medical necessity, though. And it takes a really long time to go
through the process. I pursued my case for over 9 months before I was
approved.

Try for spend down... every state has this, where no matter what your
income is, you may have a "deductible" but once your bill exceeds
that amount medicaid would pick up the balance.... probe your caseworker
more... find out what your amount would be based on your income...
