Question:
Does anyone know the codes for these tests?

Hi all...My surgeon, Dr. Foster, is asking me to get a chest X-Ray and Abdominal ultra-sound done (to check for gallstones). What I am wondering, is if anyone knows the CPT codes for these procedures? I need to check and see if my insurance requires any pre-authorizations for them, but I can't seem to get the codes from my Dr.s office (they're real busy and I already feel like a pest..lol). The codes can vary drastically depending on how many views of the x-ray etc., so you really need to get them from the doctor's office. However, if the tests are already ordered then just call the place they will be done and ask what has been ordered. <p>I can't guarantee they don't need pre-auth but I would doubt the x-ray does. Not sure about the ultrasound. Just keep bugging them.

I code Medical Records at a large hospital in Evansville. The code for a complete chest is 71020 and the code for a complete abdominal ultrasound is 76700. The diagnosis for morbid obesity is 278.01. If you have any further questions, feel free to e-mail me.
