Question:
Please give examples of daily meals for 5 month post-op.

I would love to see what other 5 month post-ops are eating. I think I am doing pretty well but want to see what others are doing. Thanks in advance......    — Sharon1964 (posted on January 18, 2003)

At 5 months post-op, I was eating pretty much what I eat now at 11 months post-op, just smaller amounts. I make sure and have protein for every meal and for at least 1 snack. So breakfast is usually 1 scrambled egg with some melted cheese and a dollop of veggie chili on top, for lunch either grilled meat/chicken over salad or tuna fish salad over crackers, or 1/2 of a meat sandwich on whole wheat bread with the top layer of bread removed. Dinner was grilled meat/chicken and a steamed veggie, or 1/2 a lean cuisine with the meat first, then veggie, then a bite or two of the carb. Snacks were: 1/2 protein bars, popcorn, cheese and crackers, peanut butter on crackers, small mini bite size cookies, SF ice cream and SF candy. 3 meals a day and 2 snacks a day. I would try to get in a protein shake every other day or so.

Sharon, I am 5 mos post op this past week, here is an example of what I eat in a day: (breakfast) 2 scrambled eggs w/ cheese, 2 sm links of turkey sausage, (lunch) salad with a 4 oz grilled chicken cut over top, (snack - late afternoon) Zone protein bar, (dinner) 4 meatballs or 4oz of filet mignon, or 12 shrimp or 4oz chicken breast and some kind of veggie (snack) 1 SF fudgsicle....it is usually around 1000 calories, 20g of carb and about 90g of protein. Oh, and a ton of water, mint tea and crystal light.

I am almost 7 months post-op. I must admit that at five months po I rarely paid attention to what I was eating, and I was snacking on nuts way too much. I am now very aware of everything I put into my mouth. I will be the first to tell you though, I do not limit my carbs nearly as much as some other posters. So if you still want to know what I eat, here goes: I usually have breakfast around 8am, and it consists of a 6oz fat free sugar free yogurt. I've actually found that I like the Wal-Mart store brand the best. The banana cream pie flavor is my favorite. Sometime around 11am I have 1 tablespoon of peanut butter on a Wasa crisp. For lunch (between 1 & 1:30pm) I have 2 ounces of turkey or ham and a piece of string cheese. Sometimes in the afternoon I'll have a protein shake. For dinner I might have 3 ounces of chicken, or a Gorton's grilled fish fillet from the freezer section. If I get the munchies in the evening, I usually have a handful of red bell pepper slices. I usually come in between 700 and 900 calories a day, with around 30 grams of carbs, 20 grams of fat, and 70 grams of protein. I do sometimes eat other things, but this is what I eat the majority of the time. I know most people don't track their food intake this closely, but it works for me. Before I just felt like my weight loss was totally out of my hands. I kept thinking, gee I hope I keep losing weight. Now that I know what I'm eating, I know that my weight loss is my responsibility. People say they had this surgery so they wouldn't have to diet anymore. I've thought about that alot. I had the surgery so food wouldn't control me anymore. So what if I have to track what I eat. I am more in control now than I have been in years, and I am loving every minute of it! Rny 07-08-02 down 123 pounds.
