Question:
Can someone give me advice about diet at this point?
The last 2 days (my first home from the hospital) I have eaten: 4 tsp. unsweetened applesauce (breakfast), for lunch 1/2 a popsicle (sugarfree), and for dinner, about 3 oz. blended cream of potato soup. Lots of water/liquids. Is this ok, should I eat more/less? The surgeon told me WHAT to eat, but didn't say HOW MUCH. I have had no pain or problems. I guess I just need some reinforcement that I'm doing ok, or advice if I'm not. — Kimberley E. (posted on December 18, 2002)

-from original poster- Debby, thanks for the advice, but I just CAN NOT
eat something every half hour, even if I felt like it, I have kids, a job
that's already needing me at 7 days post-op, a husband, blah blah
blah--there is no way I'm preparing a little 1 oz. portion every 30 minutes
of my day. I do the water bit, carrying it around but that's about the
best I can do. I'm not trying to be non-compliant. I'm just asking about
my 'meals'.

An excellent post op diet plan can be found at
http://sabariatric.com/diet_after_gastric_bypass.htm This plan has been
used by over 4,000 patients. It is flexible and easy to follow. Everyone
is different, just feel your way. I had surgery 10/29/02 never blended a
thing and can eat anything including beef. I just tried something
different each day and have had no problems with anything. I'd lost 39lbs
at 25 days post op and go this Friday for another weight check, I know I've
lost, my clothes that where skin tight are falling off of me. Good luck!

It sounds like you are doing everything perfect, you have nothing to worry
about. I understand about the kids and job. I have four kids a full time
job and a husband. I don't have time for these precise diet plans. Read
my profile for some easy ideas at different stages. I do take a Real Meals
shake everyday to make sure I get in everything. It has everything you
need in one place. So even if you miss a meal here and there you are still
OK.
