Question:
Why do so many Sugar Free receipes call for Brown Sugar
Do we not dump on brown sugar the same as we would on White sugar? — Sharon H. (posted on November 22, 2002)

I've heard that, yes, we would dump on brown sugar as well. Maybe the
recipe called for a brown sugar substitute. If so, it's called "Sugar
Twin".

YES WE DUMP JUST AS EASY ON BROWN SUGAR AS WHITE!!!!! I found out the hard
way... There is sugar free brown sugar out there but it doesnt cook up as
nice and it is also very bitter after it has been heated up. I am looking
for good holiday recipies that I can enjoy that are sugar free.

IMO, Brown Sugar-Twin is HIDEOUS with an awful aftertaste! And believe me,
I've done a lot of experimenting! I've even figured out how to make
powdered sugar that us RNY'ers can have! When a recipe calls for brown
sugar, you can try using the same amount of turbinado sugar plus 2-3 Tbs.
of sugar-free maple syrup and it works wonders. Turbinado sugar is
natural, so it doesn't have the sugar alcohols that give people stomach
upset, diarrhea, cramping, etc. For more recipes, visit

I use brown SugarLike. Tastes like brown sugar--exactly. Texture is more
like granulated. Works great in Toll House cookies, hot cereal, etc.
