Question:
What does procedure numbers mean?
I just got a letter from my insurance company that said that I was covered for "prodedures 43843, 47001 and 64450." What does this mean? — [Deactivated Member] (posted on November 22, 2002)

Becky - the procedure code 43843 is gastroplasty other than vertical
banded. The code 47001 is a needle biopsy of the liver and 64450 is a
nerve block. Hope this helps.

These codes are known as CPT codes. It's required that any procedure
performed by a medical professional or ancillary service be billed to an
insurance company using a CPT code. They are compiled by the AMA. The
post below lists the name for each.
