Question:
I am 11 days post op and I am on the liquid diet for 2 weeks.
Is it possible not to feel full during the liquid diet stage?? But I am not hungry either. The only time I have felt full was when I had some diluted apple juice, it felt so good to drink something different I drank it too fast and got full and uncomfortable. But I wonder if this is normal and if I will really get the full/satisfied feeling when I begin soft foods. And when I do start soft foods, I am allowed one tablespoon 3 times a day, plus my liquids. I think this is doable so I actually get to chew...which wont be as frustrating because I will be happy to eat something. But if I could get some feed back on feeling full, it would be appreciated. — Shavonne P. (posted on August 27, 2002)

Shavonne, I was actually hungry after surgery, like days after! But I got
full very quickly too. I could tell because at first, it felt as though my
stomach was a very stuffed prune in the upper part of my abdomen. Also,
overeating was painful. I doubt that you will feel full on what you are
eating now. But recommend that you follow what your physician recommends.
A lot of what you feel could be be considered "head hunger".
My doctor, I happen to think, is much too liberal in letting people eat
soft foods early after surgery. The problem I've found with that is that
at 6 months out, I'm already eating 1500 calories a day. I'm losing slowly
and have essentially lost my window of opportunity. So hang in there, I'm
pretty sure that what you are experiencing is normal. Good luck!

I also never felt full, but not hungry either. The nutritionist said it
would be hard to feel full on liquids. Once I got to the mushy stage, I
still didn't feel full on my 2 oz, could eat more (but didn't). I did eat
an egg the other day and finally felt full, a little over-full actually!
It sat there all day long!! It was slightly uncomfortable, but I was glad
to experience it because I was starting to believe I had already stretched
my pouch or something!
