Question:
Switching Insurance- BCBS California or Kaiser? Opinions please.
I have had Health Net for the operation and almost a yr. out but now have to choose another company. Either Kaiser or Blue Cross of California. If I switch to Blue Cross I keep my surgeon and support but loose a chance for tucks ups. If I choose Kaiser I loose my support and doctor, but maybe get the tucks. Any ideas or help out there??? — Janie H. (posted on August 18, 2002)

I have BCBS of CA and a co-worker who has it was approved. I don't know if
I am approved yet but I got the exclusions from my employer and it says
they dont' pay for weight loss treatment, but it also says that treatment
for Morbid Obesity will be paid. So ask for the exclusions and compare
them.

I have Kaiser in SO CA- (employee there too)~ before Idecided I would speak
to both companies about the specific weight loss surgery coverage- I know
that Kaiser requires that you have a higher BMI (50) than some other
insurances- but will waive it with co morbidities or if you have a great
PCP who can write a wonderful recommendation letter. Anyway, be sure to
read the policies before making the decision!

I have Blue Cross of California. Once my surgeon submitted my paperwork, I
was approved for lap RNY in 8 days. Blue Cross has made timely payments on
the claims. No complaints from me.

Thank you for the responses. I had the surgery all ready I was wondering
about the after care? I want to be able to later on get tuck ups and want
the right one to sign up with. Right now I am leaning towards Blue Cross.
I want to stay with my surgeon for the support. But thanks for the input.
