Yep, call your PCP right away though. Lots of us have this occur. My theory.. Ore op stress causes our immune sytem to flake out, resulting in all sorts of infections just before surgery.

Hi there! I had my pre-op blood work done four days before my surgery and my surgeon called my on Saturday (surgery was Monday) and said my white blood cell count was high and I had some sort of infection. I was on heavy antibiotics before my surgery and even was told to take a pill the day of my surgery, so I'm sure antibiotics are a thumbs up. If you have an infection in your body, they may not do your surgery. Good luck! Open RNY 4.29.02 -55

I have to agree with Bob! I really think our bodies take a toll with the pre-op stress. I was on antibiotics before my original surgery date. I was cancelled but it was NOT due to my UTI it was due to signs of a possible clot which I am happy to say was a false scare :) I am sure some bodily infections will put surgery on hold though...better to be safe!!

I was on antibiotics before my original surgery date too, had a sinus and ear infection. Come the day of my surgery my wbc was too high, even after being on antibiotics for 10 days of 1000 mgs each. I got sent home, no surgery for me that day. Before I left the btc I had a new surgery date, 2 weeks later, and 2 rounds of the z-pak antibiotic, plus an IV bag full of antibiotics. After I finished the 2 rounds of z-pak, I had 6 biaxin left at home, so I took them too. I was on antibiotics up until the day before surgery. At btc even though you go for preop a week before surgery, they check your blood before you have surgery that day. I didn't check where you were having your surgery done, but please don't forget to mention the ear infection before you go into surgery. I know you can't wait to get to the losing side, but if your body is not ready you may end up really sick and not recover right away. Good luck to you and God Bless!
