I too, wondered about this because of course, I was on my period when it
was time for surgery. The answer is yes. Good luck to you!!

I just had my TT this past Wednesday, and wouldn't you know I would get my
period on Monday night...the question is yes, you can have surgery while
your "monthly bill" is being paid...the nurses and doctors all
told me the same thing--TAMPONS are a big no-no. The risk of infection is
immense during a surgical procedure with them. Just tell the hospital upon
your admission and you will be given the large size maternity pads with the
ever fashionable fishnet panties and you'll do just fine. The nurses are
used to taking care of all kinds of stuff...and the ones I had during my TT
were AWESOME!!
God Bless and Good Luck. Have a sparkling day!

You can, with no problem, plenty of inconvenience, but no problem. If it
makes you feel any better, a remarkably high percentage of women end up
getting their periods right after a major surgery, even if it wasn't due. I
thought I was safe, having had mine the week before my surgery. I ended up
getting it again 2 days after my RNY. After reading this Q and A board for
9 months, I've discovered this is very common.
