Question:
Since surgery 3 weeks ago, I cant stand up straight.
Normally,I have very good posture. Now, however, if I stand up straight with my shoulders back, it hurts my abdomen. So I have been kind of hunched over ever since.Should I stretch it out or just let it rest? How long does this last?Anyone else experience this? — Stephanie H. I had the open rny, dec. 6, 2001. I had my staples removed dec 14, 2001. I
couldn't stand up straight for about a month after surgery. I knew it was
all surgery related, and just let my body heal naturally. 7 weeks and
35lbs later I'm walking straight, and feeling great! You'll be fine
shortly!

If you had the open rny they have cut through some muscle and things have
been jossled
around in there. I had the same thing shortly after surgery, it is just the
muscles healing and moving back into their normal
position. What i did was tried standing up straight a bit each day and laid
down and stretched them out after a month I was fine
You will be fine it is all part of the healing process.

Yes, it is called 'guarding'. You are walking in an odd posture to protect
yourself from pain and its totally normal to do this. Like the others
said, try straightening yourself out little by little.
