Question:
At 4 months, on the average what is the normal amount of food?
Some times I think I can eat way too much!! I had a RNY - transected - For breakfast I can eat 4 - 8 oz yogurt - lunch is either a 1/3 of a salad, a bowl of soup, or 1/2 of a club sandwich (eaten open face) and dinner I can eat 1/4 to 1/3 of a steak and maybe a 1/2 a crock of soup. Sometimes, I feel like I eat way too much. Any advice or opinions out there? — chance2lv (posted on September 24, 2001)

Hi! I am also at 4 months. I think you are eating a normal amount. I eat
about 3-4 ounces at a time, sometimes more and sometimes less. One thing I
do notice is that you are eating some liquidy (soup and yogurt) and
high-volume, low bulk foods (salad). Anything liquidy will pass through
more quickly and you will be able to eat more. It will also help other
foods to pass through more quickly (like the steak). The salad looks like a
lot, but once you chew it up there really isn't much to it. It's like
popcorn. I can eat like 1/2 a bag if I haven't had anything to eat in a
while, but it's mostly air. You can tell my looking at the nutritional
content of a food for the volume. Popcorn has about 12 grams of carbs and
not a whole lot of fat grams for 3 cups popped. Obviously, there isn't much
there! If you're happy with your weight loss, I wouldn't worry about it. If
you start to worry, just eat more "solid" foods and less liquidy
stuff.

Sounds like a reasonable amount for 4 months post-op. I had the same
surgery 9 months ago, and I have been eating about that much, or maybe a
little more since two or three months post. Sounds pretty normal to me.
