Question:
What can I use?
I'm very fortunate not to have to many headaches. However I got one today! They suggest Tyonal, however that NEVER stops pain for me. I know aspirn is out because of the surgery. What else is good for headaches that won't hurt my stomach? Thanks. — Danmark (posted on May 31, 2001)

Aleve is a very good medicine for headaches. Tylenol also doesn't work for
me. This however does and is not hard on the stomache.

Hi Daniel,
Please check with your dr as to what you can and can not use. My dr said
NO alleve..no matter. I forget what the reason was.

I have always taken Excedrine for headaches pre op. It is the only thing
that ever worked. Tylenol is like a placebo and has no effect on me. My
surgeon prescribed Ultram since Excedrine is now in my past only and it
seems to work ok. Ask yours what they suggest.

Daniel, my doctor also has a list of medications not to take and one of
them includes ALEVE!! This type of medication and stuff that is Ibuprofen
based is not good for our stomachs post op. I'm sorry Tylenol doesn't work
for you. I was an Ibuprofen girl myself pre op. You could try Excedrin.
It's not on my list so it's probably Tylenol based. My surgeon gives his
patients copies of medicines we're never supposed to have again and
suggests we give a copy to our pharmacist. I suggest you call your
surgeon's office and ask if they have such a list and if not, can they make
suggestions? Good luck. Laura

Excedrin has aspirin in it, so I would assume it is a NO NO

I've suffered for many years with Migraine, Sinus/Allergy headaches. One of
my biggest concerns with surgery [MAy 31, 2001 Lap RnY]was getting one of
my debilitating headaches. My surgeon prescribed Fioriset which is a muscle
relaxant type pain killer in a Tylenol base. Tylenol has not worked for me
in the past either but I find if it is accompanied by something else it
does the job. Over the counter, Sudafed Sinus Headache does a good job.
Also in a Tylenol base. 2 months before surgery I stopped all my other
meds, dropped all caffeine and tried to cut out sugars. That is when I put
the above mentioned meds to the test. Took the Fioriset midnight before
surgery, no headache, slight on since, Sudafed knocks it away. Good luck. I
feel most disabled with headache pain.
