I had Cigna HMO & only had to have a second opinion, a echocardiogram
and was approved without any problem. Other than waiting for the tests, I
was approved in about 2 weeks. My surgeon's office did all the work. Good
luck.

I have Cigna PPO, I had my approval in 3 weeks. No 2nd opinions or other
testing required by them. I called my Cigna rep on a regular basis so they
wouldn't forget me. Good Luck!!!!!!!

I have Cigna PPO. I was going to the New England Medical Center Obesity
Clinic for 6 months. In order to qualify for treatment it must be medically
necessary. Cigna, after receiving the doctor's letter stating this, the
treatment was approved within 2 weeks (after refaxing letter). For my
surgery (Aug. 17) the surgeon sent a letter requesting it. Cigna responded
within a few days by requesting additional information from them (office
notes/weight loss). This was faxed (and refaxed) but the overall approval
took 3 weeks. I was quite please because although I started out with a BMI
of 44, I had lost 30 pounds since starting with the clinic and now have a
BMI of 37 but they still approved me.
