Question:
Any suggestions for exercise regimen for somebody with real bad hip
Need Total Hip Replacement this summer. Scheduled for VRGB in March. Want to maximize weight loss with steady exercise program, but painful hip situation precludes ability to walk. Please, please provide insight, alternatives, experiences, suggestions, sources of information/exercises. I've been told the degree of exercising will either assist or abate initial weight loss! — Lenard D. (posted on February 11, 2000)

Lenard, you might want to try water exercises, including walking. The
bouyancy of the water makes you weigh less and takes the stress off of your
joints.
There are water aerobics, or you can just walk in the pool. Check out your
local

First I would suggest you check with your Ortho. Dr. but if he approves I
would try a aerobic swim class. I think that would provide you with good
exercise without the pressure on your hip. Good Luck

good luck with your hip surgery.
