Question:
Can dumping be harmful?

Congratulations on your success! Dumping isn't harmful per se. It is your
body's reaction to having sugar "dumped" into your small
intestine before the stomach has time to break it down. However, a
significant part of the reaction is to draw water out of your body tissues
and into your intestine. You need to be sure to replace those liquids so
you don't become dehydrated.

I'm not a doctor.. and my thoughts are merely speculation.. BUT I think
dumping is similar to various reactions in your body to sugar.. and if
diabetes is harmful because of fluctuations in blood sugar.. I would think
a lot of dumping -- which creates fluctuations in blood sugar -- could be
harmful. What it does, I don't know. I think most, though not all of us,
who dump, do it occasionally... I do.. sometimes to my surprise.. and once
in a great while -- *grin* its not surprise. Oh, I do say no thanks, I
can't eat sugar -- or I give it away before it even gets into the house.
Good luck!

Hey Dear, there are all sorts of sugar free goodies out there that you can
enjoy and not dump so why not try them?? I have dumped a couple of times
and they couldn't make me eat something that I know is gonna do that to me.
I have a recipe for a applesauce cake make with splenda, fudge made with
splenda and they are both delicious. Check out www.splenda.com you will
find lots of good recipes. It is my understanding that if you keep doing
things that make you dump that eventually your body will get used to the
sugar again and eventually stop dumping. I don't know about you but the
dumping kind of keeps me in line now that I am at goal and can't eat more
of a variety of foods. I wish you the best and if you need those recipes
just email me, I will be more than happy to share them with you. Good
Luck!!

Don't beat yourself up over this, but it's time for a "come to
Jesus." Eventually you're going to build up a tolerance for the sugar
and have no negative reaction to eating it. When someone gives you sweets
for a present, do say "thanks," then promptly give it away to
someone else. Drop it by the fire station on your way home or leave it on a
coworker's desk or PUT IT DOWN THE GARBAGE DISPOSAL! Reward yourself with a
sugar-free treat! Good luck!

Dumping isnt dangerous at all according to my surgeon, unless yoiu tried to
operate machinery while dumping and that would be dumb:( But it builds up
your tolerance and at 2.5 years out sugar goes RIGHT to the scale as
pounds:(
