Question:
Zoloft and my little irritated pouch.

I am out 5 weeks and until 2 weeks ago I was a textbook patient. Then one Sunday I got over confident and ate some very hot, hot sauce my pouch hurt bad but I did not throw up. Everyday since then I have gotten where I can't consume anything without severe pain and the throw up. I had a slight glimmer of hope the last 2 days as I was waiting for my liquid zoloft, I was able to hold down yogurt and applesauce. Last night I took the liquid and this morning I even barfed yogurt. I am also taking Regalin and Phenagren for the nausea. I went on the liquid Zoloft because the 100mg burned my pouch bad, the liquid had the same effect in my mouth as a crushed 100mg. So I am almost certain the Zoloft is keeping my pouch irritated, and it has been 2 weeks since the hot sauce incident. Anyhow I read a few posts and wanted to see if one of you wonderful people and I do mean it sincerely could shed some more light on this. I have basically stopped eating and can only hold down liquids. One more thing I have been taking about 3mg of Xanax a day to make it through. Thanks to all you caring people! I still don't regret having the RNY!    — Kevin T. (posted on December 27, 2003)

Just a suggestion......Your pouch may be producing acid.In most cases weightloss surgery cures acid reflux but in some people it does not or i tcan even trigger it.If this is the case, the acid may be keeping your pouch in a state of irritation. I had this problem after surgery and I have to take prevacid twice a day or my pouch gets irritated.

You may have a slight ulcer. Does your tummette feel better if you drink a little milk? Can you sip some Maloxx? Have you tried crushing your Zoloft and mixing it in a couple of tablespoons of no-sugar added applesauce? Try never to take meds on an empty tummette unless specifically directed. Always try to "coat" your pouch before taking your meds. And, watch out for the hot tamales:-}
