Question:
I need a recipe for powdered sugar frosting.
I have a great recipe for a LOW SUGAR, sugar cookie with cream cheese. However while looking through some cookbooks and also some internet sites I can not find a recipe for the powdered sugar frosting. Even as a pre op I liked that as it does'nt taste as sweet as most frostings. I think it had the powdered sugar, butter and vanilla beat up. But I don't remember the quanity. If anyone else has any good ideas for a frosting let me know. I will be getting up early tomarrow morning to make it. (Cookies are cooled now and all ready to decorate). Thanks. :) — Danmark (posted on December 17, 2003)

As a kid, my mom would take a cup or so of powdered sugar, a tsp of
vanilla, and water until you reach desired consistncy. It was more of a
glaze than a fluffy frosting, but we really liked it.. Be sure to break up
the lumps in the powdered sugar with a fork or sift before adding fluid.
If you go to http://www.splenda.com they have a recipe to make your own
powdered sugar using Splenda. Then you could make the glaze with that,
vanilla, and water.

Daniel,
I have a recipe for a powdered sugar recipe frosting and it is not
sickening sweet if you would like to try it.
Here it is:
1 1/4 Cup Crisco
1/2 Cup Warm Water
2 lbs. Powered Sugar
1 teasp. Vanilla
Pinch of salt
Add water a little at a time not all at once sometimes don't need the full
half cup depending on how stiff you want the frosting.

1 package of cream cheese or the lowfat stuff
1 package of powdered sugar (sifted)
1 t. vanilla
lowfat milk
food coloring
Beat up the sugar and vanilla adding the milk slowly until you get the
consistancy you want, then add food coloring to decorate.

If you are interested here is a powered sugar replacement
2 cups non fat dry milk powder
2 cups cornstarch
1 cup splenda or other sweetner substitute
combine all ingredients in food processor until well blended and powdered.
Transfer to airtight container.
Use as replacement for powdered sugar in recipes. yields 4 cups

Y'all are playing with fire... there are NO low sugar frostings made with
Powdered Sugar! Make your cookies and lightly dust them with powdered sugar
that you have placed in a wire sieve. The powdered sugar substitute is
great for sifting over a cake so that it looks like powdered sugar but
doesnt hold up in a frosting.
If you make a sugar icing for your cookies, just leave a few plain ones for
yourself. The cookies are made with sugar and if they were iced would put
you in dangerous dumping territory.
Sorry to put a damper on your cookie baking, but some things just cannot be
duplicated as a sugar free recipe.

First of all, you have to make your own powdered sugar. I have two
different recipes (which happen to be in my WLS recipe book). The first
one is to take 1 C. of fructose and 1/3 C. of cornstarch and blend the heck
out of it in a food processor or blender. It will not be as powdery as
real powdered sugar, but works great in my cream cheese frosting recipe for
my moist carrot cake. Another is to use 3/4 C. of Splenda and 2 Tbsp.
cornstarch and again, blend the heck out of it. No matter which one you
use, the trick is to make sure your other ingredients are at room
temperature and beat the heck out of it....especially if you are using
butter, margarine or cream cheese.....4 hours on the countertop should do
it, but DO NOT melt it! If you are interested in other recipes, visit my
website at www.freewebs.com/recipes-after-rny Good luck! By the
way....I'd LOVE to have your low sugar sugar cookie recipe with cream
cheese!

http://www.steelsgourmet.com/01092622044513/ ... try that. I have used
their sugar free honey and powdered sugar. I've never made anything with
the powdered sugar, but I use it to dip strawberries. And it is perfect. No
difference in texture or flavor. And I am OH SO PICKY.

Fructose is sugar Lynette. The recipe you give for a substitution doesnt
work for RNY surgery. How about not frosting the cookies, or using regular
frosting on the ones for company but leaving a few without?

Hi, this is not a powdered sugar recipe but it is a good frosting recipe.
1-1/3 C. very cold milk
1 envelope Dream Whip
1 small box instant sugar-free pudding (I like lemon)
Beat dream whip and 1/2 C. milk on high speed with electric mixer for 6
minutes on high speed or until it forms peaks. Add remaining milk and
pudding mix. Beat on low speed until blended. Beat on high speed for 2
minutes. Must be refrigerated.
