I'm having my Laparoscopic done this friday and yes my surgeon will be
taking my gallbladder too. Its done by just two more little incesions. With
your open rny I dont know if this is possible for you or not. Only your
doctor can tell you. Good Luck!!

I had mine out 12 years ago, long before my WLS, and it was done lap - when
lap was just becoming the "standard" way to do it. I had my RNY
by a couple weeks ago and there were no adhesion problems luckily. So...as
long as you have no adhesion problems, the chance of your gallbladder
coming out by lap is extremely high. If they have to convert to an open,
the incision is not straight up the belly like WLS, it is sort of midline
wrapping around toward the back somewhat.

I had my gallbladder out 1 1/2 yrs. after my open rny. I had
it done Lap and it was a breeze. The dr had to cut 8 holes in me
verses the usual 4 because of my scar tissue and the staples, but
neverless, it was a very easy operation. I was an out patient
and was home within 8 hrs of my surgery and back to work in
one week. I choose to be off for a week, I could have gone back
sooner. Good luck!!

Janet, You sound just like me, I too have really bad paind and found out
that it was my gall bladder at mine was at the 8 month mark (post-op). No
worry here, have it removed , They removed my lap, it to me wasn't that
bad, how-ever I had allot of scar tissue and I think the gall bladder
doctor tried to manipulate the lap oject around my belly button to look at
my small tummy... Go figure, it was a little painfull but I had it done on
a Friday and was back to work that Monday.
Best of luck.

Hey Janet, not only do we have the same name but a similar situation. I
had my RNY in February of this year. By May, I had developed gallstones
and I had my gallbladder removed on July 7th. The surgeon was able to do
it lap, but before he had stated that he might have to open me up.
Luckily, everything went smoothly and they were able to do it lap, the
surgery was outpatient and I was back home that afternoon. There was
almost no pain, just fatique. Having two surgeries so close together was
very hard on my body and I took a month off from work to recover. This is
my first week back at work and I am doing well, no pain, some discomfort
but still very tired. Good luck to you. Also, because of all the
gallbladder pain and nausea, I had a lot of trouble eating before the
surgery, and it's taken me a while since then to get back on track. I am
back to eating what I ate at about 4 weeks post bypass, so don't be
surprised if this happens to you too. Good luck.

I had to have my RNY Open (May 8th, 2001) because I had a hysterectomy in
Nov 1989. Anyway, 10 months after WLS I had to have my gallbladder out. I
was very surprised that he said he could do it LAP. It was a piece of cake.
At least compaired to the other many surgeries I've had so far.

Open RNY 10-01...LAP gallbladder 4-02...open ulcer removal 9-02...so yes
they can do LAP after an open procedure. But in the event that they have
to do it open...it is along the same scar. When I had my ulcer surgery
they cut along the same scar. It looks the same and you cant tell I had to
be opened twice. Hope that helps.

I had my lap RNY done 8/2002 and am scheduled next week to hve my
gallbladder out and the surgeon thinks there will be no problem doing it
lap. Very interesting how they do it...3 camera incisions on the right
side and they take the gall bladder out via an incision in your belly
button. They said I should be up and going within 2-3 days.
