Question:
7 months post-op, still battling with frequent dizziness
The dizziness usually occurs when I rise from sitting/laying to a standing position. I have also become quite dizzy when I turn quickly to see something. Also, haven't been able to take a HOT shower or bath due to dizziness (warm showers are fine). All of these things have occurred since surgery but I figured they would go away by now! I take in at least 80 ounces of liquids per day (sugar-free/caffeine free) and at least 90 grams of protein daily. I do not think it's dumping because I will get dizzy when I haven't eaten anything but it seems the dizziness is more frequent when I haven't eaten. Anyone have any ideas??? Thanks in advance! — Dena C. (posted on June 25, 2003)

You might want to have your blood pressure checked while in a sitting
position, then once standing. This will let you know whether or not you
are having a significant drop in blood pressure. If I'm not mistaken, I
believe your blood pressure is higher while sitting. Therefore everyone
has a bit of a drop when going from sitting to standing, but your's may be
more significant of a difference. Check with your doctor.

I'm 25 months post op and still have this problem. I've talked with my
doctors until I'm blue in the face. Nothing has changed and I'm not getting
any help or any better. Yes, much of the time my BP is ether 80/40 or
90/56. Way to low. But the fact is, none of my doctors are taking my low
blood pressure or lightheadedness serious. One of these days I probally
will pass out and get hurt. Sure have no idea why they won't try to treat
it.

Everything you're describing sounds an awful lot like being dehydrated.
Being dehydrated will also suppress your blood pressure! Try to review
everything you're drinking and try to space it out more evenly throughout
the day. Also, with respect to the foods you're eating, think about
finding some that might have a higher water concentration. Lastly, when I
was feeling very light-headed, I started every morning with about 4 oz of
OJ--- that little sugar rush (it didn't make me dump, although white carbs
do) seemed to take the edge of my dizziness (at least until mid afternoon).

21 mos post op....I have the same problem. And on 4 or 5 occasions I have
actually passed out completely. I have been to the doctor and it was
blamed on my low blood pressure 88/60. It has always been low, but has
dropped since my surgery. My doctors advice...drink more...maybe try
gatoraid. Umm ok...I drink so much now that I float to the bathroom every
20 minutes. It does come and go tho..cant explain that. I will experience
the dizzyness when i stand up for a month or so...then it will go away for
a month or so...then come back....who knows why. I am not changing
anything. I wish i had an answer for you...

I'm 20 months post-op and still have it happen all the time. It's low
blood pressure. You have to take your time in getting up. The faster you
jump up, the faster you'll go down!!

I used to have this a lot - I had a middle/inner ear problem... it was
discovered when I was being treated for migraines. The therapy was painless
and only took a couple of weeks. I don't get dizzy any more, no motion
sickness, no migraines. Maybe you should explore that possiblilty?
Good luck!

No one has mentioned this but I get dizzie, also shakey, can't think
straight and get a "have to eat this second" feelin. Many times
I just feel like crap. I have been diagnosed with hypoglycemia. I had
insulin resistance before surgery and the weight loss has helped that but
now I am battling the "Low Blood sugar" If you have more
symptoms much like mine ... check it out. I too thought it was from Low
Pressure but it turned out to be low sugar... goodluck..
