Question:
Where can a man get a wig?

I've always had very curly hair. Since WLS, it is even curlier. I've tried hair straigteners and it only makes it worse. (By the way, I never had any hair loss with WLS ether). Anyway, with the curls being so wild, it was no use combing my hair. I've finally given up and shaved most of my hair off. I'd like to get a couple wigs and have no idea where to get them and how much? I want the hair style that I've always dreamed of. At 45, I'm not going to wait any longer hoping my wild curly hair will straigten out. It won't. Anyone have any ideas on where a guy can get some wigs? Thanks.    — Danmark (posted on May 28, 2003)

Daniel, I dont know where you can get a wig,but have you had a consultation with a professional stylist or having you been doing your hair yourself.Top stylists can cost quite a bit but it would be worth the extra money since they are trained to work with all types of hair. I am sure that they can find a cut and style that would work well for you.Try that first before you spend money on a wig.Personally I am not too fond of seeing a guy in a wig but thats my personal opinion. Daniel, Have you tried buying a hot flat iron straightner cuz that works pretty good for curly hair. You can get it at any Walmart or other department store in the section by where the hair dryers and curling irons are at. Good Luck!

You should be able to get info on getting a wig from a hair salon or cosmetology school. They should have names/addresses/phone numbers of companies who offer such. If you do not find one. Email me & I will try to help you get in touch with can help.

Believe it or not but the best way to control your curls is to perm it. That's right I said perm it. The formula breaks down the hair cortex and the nutralizer makes it remember the shape you have chosen(the size rod). Please find a hairdresser who has dealt with natural curly hair and you will be happier than with a wig. Either way you go I hope you will find what you want.

I agree with the perming it solution...if you have the stylist put in really large rollers, it will help you gain more control of you hair. On the other side of it, check with the local Cancer society...they usually have the names and numbers of very good wig suppliers for men and women. Good Luck and Have a Sparkling Day!! ~CAE~
