Question:
Question about swallowing bubble gum
I'm two years post op and used to eat sugar free ice cream occasionally, but I can't stand it anymore. So I got half a scoop of bubble gum ice cream. When it was almost gone it dawned on me that I should'nt have ate the bubble gum! I've always been careful not to swallow gum post op. But I completely forgot this time. This gum was very soft and did'nt stick together as regular gum. Do you think there will be a problem? It's been almost three hours and all feels well. Thanks. — Danmark (posted on May 19, 2003)

I chew SF gum after eating to get the taste of food out of my mouth while
waiting for the time to pass until I can drink something. I swallowed a
piece a few weeks ago and it scared me so bad I almost had an anxiety
attack, but nothing happened. I chew the tiny ones, like dentyne or
trident, but I am more careful now.

I'd think that if it was going to get stuck, it would have happened
already. It probably just passed right on through. :)

Hi, This made me chuckle. When I was about 6 weeks post-op, I did the same
thing. It scared me to death. But everything was alright. Good luck to
you, it is so nice to see these things happen to others.

Thanks all! It has now been 17 hours and no problems. Funny, I've been so
careful with gum, then I get a craving for Bubble Gum ice cream... lol

Oh, Daniel! I can't believe you are reading my mail! LOL, Swallowing bubble
gum is a no-no, I'm almost sure of it. I must admit, I am guilty as charged
for doing this this bad habit when I'm stressed or overworked. haven't ever
had a problem and my prayer is that I never do because I'm going to try and
not do it again~may even talk to a therapist about it, then ask the
community to forgive me, huh?
