Question:
Some days I can eat alot, some days not much at all, has anyone experienced this?

I am a little over 10 months out and have only lost 60 pounds. Some days I eat way more than I should be able to(like I never had surgery) and some days I can barely take 2 bites. Sadly the eating more days out weigh the others. Has anyone else experienced this? At this time I am not seeing my surgeon and will probably not be able to in the future, or any other surgeon for that matter due to money. Has this happened to anyone else?    — LaKeAffy (posted on April 23, 2003)

Yes, me too. I am 7.5 months out and used to it. I just go with the flow, when I can eat, I do, when I can't I don't.

LaKeitha, this is true for me too, my hubby even commented last night how much I eat, he said it was like I never had surgery. I have begone "water loading" myself and drinking right up to when I start eating. I will also drink a bunch during my meals if I feel as though I am not getting full enough. I'm two years post op and there have been around 5 days (not consecutive) where I could eat alot. And have, of course, been ravaneous hungery. Thankfully only those few times. In my case I'm thinking there must have been some mineral that my body was craving. Sounds like it's happening to you alot. Perhaps you should contact your surgeon BEFORE you get alot of weight gain. Does'nt sound right.

I often experience the feeling where I can just keep eating. I measure everything I eat to help offset that. I also keep a food journal, which is something I never thought I could ever do. It helps. I eat 6-8 smaller meals a day. Because I am a snacker, I built my snacks into my day. 275-173-137.

It happens to me too. I find that it all depends on the time of month and my hormones. The freakiest part is that I CAN eat more on certain days not just that i want to. Then the naxt day 2 ounces of tuna and I am stuffed. For me it is all about the hormones because it is like clockwork.

Yep, 13 months out and happens all the time. I can eat the exact same types of food two days but only get a little bit in one time and a lot the next. I see many people ask this question so I think it happens to many. I do not find a common thread causing it, some days I just think my body does not want food. people will say well you may need to chew better, or slow down. Nope, I think it is just my bodies way of saying "not today". **13 months PO, -200 lbs, current wgt 120**

One more thing I forgot to mention, I hear people saying they eat like they never had surgery, I was having days when I felt like this too. Then one day I went out to one of my pre surgery favorite eat spots. I ordered exactly what I would have in the past. Well pre surgery I would have cleaned the plate AND drank 3 glasses of tea. Well once you see how little you are now eating off that plate you will realize the same thing I did. See I was unable to eat more than a bite or two for nearly a year. Now seeing myself eat I feel like I am gorging. But when I saw how much was left of that meal, I knew. I am not eating like a Post-Op RNY, I am eating like a skinny person :)

You might consider having your thyroid checked. Low thyroid will cause you to have days when you could eat a side of beef and days where water is too much. I had experienced this a lot pre surgery but fortunately I am on medication and have not had a problem since the surgery. Good luck.

so sorry to hear about your trobles i want to ask which surgery you had first did you have the gastric bypass our the ryn i had the same happen to me i now have to have a revision i had the surgery with the band the ryn and i did not loose much weight at all i was 266 and got down to 196 somewhere around there. and shortly i started gaining it back i to could eat big meals but i had found out the ring sliped which caused me not to feel full when i ate. but then other times i would get so full i would throw up it became a up and down battle. i would suggest you try to get into some type of doctor. you man need a revision you may have stapple break down are something. but keep your head up it will be ok try not to get down hugs hugs hugs the world is a special place because you are here
