Question:
Why am I losing slowly as far as weight, but extremely fast in inches?
Hi guys, I had surgery 10/01/02 and have lost exactly 65 lbs as of today. I started at 294, and today i'm 229. My weight loss pace is not exactly fast, but not slow either so I guess I'm average. However, I feel like I'm losing inches much faster than others. Did anyone else have this? I started off in an 18/20 top and 24 or 26 bottoms and I currently can wear a Medium, Large, or Xlarge in the juniors department for tops depending on the style and an 16 bottoms and a couple pairs of 14 pants have fit me as well. Most of the people I read here lose so much more weight than me, but not nearly as many dress sizes. Some of them started off at my before sizes but don't get to my current size until they're about a year post op. Don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining but it's just weird. Anyone else losing like me? — Iris B. (posted on February 1, 2003)

Hi. I had surgery on 9-30-02, one day before you. I started at 264 and am
now at 188, for a total of 74 pounds. I can wear a size 16 pants and large
tops, down from a size 24 pants and 2 or 3X shirt. looks like we're on the
same path! It doesn't really seems all that slow to me. I think if it went
any faster I would be overwhelmed. You did not say how tall you are?

I just wanted you to know, I had my surgery on Oct. 24, 2002 and I am down
from a 26 jean to an 18 and a top size of a 2-3x to a med. I am 5 foot
tall. I was 248 now 180. I think you are on the right track. I did hear
that the more you weigh the faster you lose in the first few months. Keep
up the good work your doing great!!!

18's already.......Is this great or what?!

I am losing like you. I had surgery on 10/10/02, i was 262 size 20 pants/2x
tops with a chest size of 44DD. I am down to 201 wearing a size 16
pants/L-xL tops. I am doing a lot of weight lifting. I also plataeu every
month for 2 weeks so my weight loss is not like everyone elses.

Not to be mean, because I'm not. But I could care less if the scale said I
weighed a ton, if I were looking good, and fitting into clothes like I
never have, just like I'am. Hey, try to put it all in perspective, and
remember, your doing this for health, and feel good, not to get the scale
to read a number your hoping for. Keep up the great work, and enjoy the
looks of the new you! You deserve it. Don't worry about those silly
numbers. Keep dropping the inches, since thats where it REALLY counts!! By
the way, how are you feeling? I thought you would say GREAT!! :)

Hey! I had surgery on the same day as you and I have lost 65 pounds as
well. I definately feel that I have lost more inches than pounds. It's
weird to see that your getting smaller but the scale isn't moving in the
same direction. As long as it keeps going down I guess we're all OK!

Woowoo, girl, how is this a slow weight loss? Sheesh, my surgery was
10/21, and I'm down 50. I'd love to be down another 15 in 20 days. You're
doing great, stop stressing!!

If you're exercising, muscle weighs more than fat and reshapes the body.

Iris, my sister! I'm only down 65 too & my surgery was 3 weeks before
yours. You're doing fantastic! I'm really proud of you. I'm weighing in at
175 & wearing L shirts & 14 jeans. Course the jeans are Old Navy so
they are bigger then RL or Banana Republic, however they are 14! Your
progress is right on track & I bet you look beautiful! Love to you.

Hi Iris, I had surgery on 10/8 I started at 299 and have lost 60 lbs but am
wearing size 16 pants. I posted a new photo on my site. I was wearing
size 16 at 250 lbs. I am 5"7 and I have been lifting weights. So far
no hair loss or sagging skin, but I drink real meals. Heres to slow
losing, may it continue.
