I was required to submit a thyroid profile to show that my current treatment was effective in controlling my hypothyroidism. Many surgeons request thyroid profiles to ensure that patients do not have undiagnosed hypo/hyperthyroidism, which could interfere w/their weight loss.

The first surgeon I went to not only requests a thyroid profile, but requires all of his patients see an endocrinologist.
