Question:
How long after surgery before you can get pregnant? how did you feel when you were?
I am curious on the effects. — Crystal R. (posted on May 30, 2002)

I have never been pregnant, but hope to sometime after WLS. My doctor
recommends that you do not allow yourself to become pregnant until 2 years
post-op. He says that is the safe cut-off for the ideal pregnancy with
WLS. I don't know how much truth there is to this, but my doctor has
completed over 2000 RNY's and seems to know what he's talking about!

If you have ovaries and you get anywhere near sperm, well, then you CAN get
pregnant, regardless of how far post op you are. Of course, that doesn't
mean you WILL, but you certainly COULD. Are you asking how soon it is
possible to become pregnant (as in accident?) or when it is medically safe
to attempt to become pregnant? Your question of how it "feels",
do you mean what are the physical signs of being pregnant? or how your
overall health will be as a pregnant post op?

Hi Crystal! I am 3 months post-op and would like to have another baby.
BUT my doctor said minimum 12 to 18 months after surgery! Be careful, we
are all VERY fertile right now! God Bless!
