Question:
Will I lose again after surg for staple line distruption?
They say that when life hands you lemons, make lemonade. I am having a repair of my staple line distruption soon. When you first have the original surgery you lose alot of weight at first and then it tapers off. I was wondering if once I have this corrective surgery I will have that initial period of rapid weight loss again. I'm trying to find the bright side of having to go through another surgery. — Meredith A. (posted on March 13, 2002)

Meredith, I know exactly how you feel. I did have a mini honeymoon again!
I had lost 68 lbs when I disrupted, gained 10 lbs in the hospital and then
in 4 mos time I lost an additional 45 lbs. As far as the eating and the
volume I can hold, I can now after 4 mos hold about 4 oz. It is just like
starting over! I have always been a slow loser because of my age, 49. If
you lost really quickly in the first surgery, you will lose fast again! I
don't consider my revision to a transected pouch, lemaonade though. I
consider it a blessing!!! Good luck and be sure you get transected this
time!
