Question:
Does fat leave through your bowel movement?
Does the fat come out through the bm? I am seeing small chunks of yellow stuff and am and am on liquids only. Any help would be apprecitated. — [Anonymous] (posted on August 29, 2001)

Some fat leaves through the bowel, especially with a DS or distal bypass.
but if you are on clear liquids, it is most likely mucus. That's normal,
the bowel's way of lubricating and cleansing itself. If you're passing a
lot of undigested fat, your stools will float and leave a greasy file on
the water.---Jesse

For what it is worth, I asked my dietician prior to surgery and she told me
that fat will come out through the urine not the bowel movement. (and now
to a more pleasant conversation..:-)

Two good answers here already. Let me confuse the issue. Do you mean the
fats/oils you eat? Do they pass out via the bowel, yes. We call 'em
"oil slicks". The other answer is right, too though, as the
fatty tissue we lose is generally washed away in the wee. I took your
question both ways. :-)
