Question:
Is it possible to have a RNY lap, if you have already had your gallbladder removed???
I had my gallbladder removed over two years ago, at that time I had a lap procedure, everything went great (I was 310 pounds), I had no complications and healed nicely. Now I'm wondering if it is possible to have a lap RNY, I understand that each person is different, and that the surgeon is the person who will make the final decision whether or not this is possible. However, I would like to hear from those with similiar experiences. Thank you for taking the time to respond. — [Anonymous] (posted on July 29, 2001)

I had a "traditional" gallbladder surgery approximately 15 years
ago, and my husband had a lap gallbladder surgery 5 years ago. We have
both had very successful, uncomplicated lap RNY surgeries. I had extensive
adhesions from my previous surgery, and those were removed during my lap
RNY with no problem. I wish you the same good luck!

Yes, it is possible to have Lap done when your gallbladder has already been
removed. I had my gallbladder removed (lap) after my son was born 5 years
ago. I had my bariatric surgery done lap 5 months ago. It is definetly
the way to go. One word of advice though. If you scar easily you may want
to ask the surgeon to skip the staples and go for the stitches. I scar
easily and not only do I have the scar from the incision I also have the
scar from the staple points.. ugh.
