Question:
Is cutting a proximal at 75 centimeters enough for effective weight loss?
I found out that my doctor bypasses only 75 centimeters. My friend's doctor had hers bypass at 150. How will this effect my weight loss? Should I change doctors? — Amy C. (posted on July 16, 2001)

No, I really don't beleive that the length makes a difference other then
how vitamin deficient you later become.
I have 75cm bypassed and am almost three weeks out-27lbs.

I have more like 400cm bypassed. I do not work very hard to keep the wt
off, as far as massive exercise or "dieting", however I do work
hard to stay nourished. Since I did have the chance to be revised, I
could've gone with less bypass, less focus on supplemental nutrition and
more focus on dieting. I did not choose that, but chose to repair my
distal as is. I never had problem putting things INTO my face, it was
keeping 'em out that was the problem. I am OBVIOUSLY biased toward my own
procedure, as we all are. I would be disinclined to do this surgery for
less than 150cm bypassed. HOWEVER, please do not assume that I am
condemning anyone else's procedure. You asked for our voices, you've got
it. Narrow as my opinion is, it's the opinoin (& procedure) I live
with! LOL!
