Question:
DOES THE PSHYCOLOGIST YOU SEE HAVE TO HAVE A MENTAL HEALTH LICENSE?
I HAVE A FRIEND WHO HAS A DEGREE IN SOCIAL WORK, MASTERS IN PUBLIC HEALTH, DOCTORATE IN CHRISTIAN PHYCOLOGY. HOW DO I FIND OUT IF THEY WILL ACCEPT HER DIAGNOSIS OR NOT? SHE DOES NOT HAVE A MENTAL HEALTH LICENSE AND I DON'T KNOW IF THAT MATTERS OR NOT? DO YOU HAVE TO GO WHERE YOUR INSURANCE SAYS? THANKS — Marybeth O. (posted on July 11, 2001)

My Dr. and/or insurance company wanted me to get physic exam. I went to my
PCP and he wrote a letter saying in his professional opinion I was mentally
capable of undergoing WLS surgery. It was only a small paragraph and he was
not a mental health specialist he is just a regular MD. I don't know why
they would not accept a letter from your friend, she is more of a
professional in the mental health area then my PCP is.
