Question:
What are the differences in the DS surgery types?
I was wondering what the difference is in the DS surgery types. I have seen BPD/DS and LR?/DS and a few others. I may possibly be having the LR?/DS, but I can't remember what all of the first letters are and what they stand for. — Renee K. (posted on March 28, 2001)

Renee, the duodenal switch WLS procedure is essentially the same regardless
of the term it's paired with (BPD, DGB, GR, LGR, etc.) The procedure name
has never been standardized among bariatric surgeons, but you can be pretty
sure that as long as "duodenal switch" is in the name, it's the
same was what's described at http://www.duodenalswitch.com. There may be
subtle variations to the procedure from surgeon to surgeon, such as common
channel length, but for practical purposes, they are all the same.

That's LGR/DS. I had that. It is Longitudinal Gastric Resection/Duodenal
Switch, or as I like to call it, Cut Your Stomach In Half the Long
Way/Re-route Your Guts So You Absorb Only A Small Percentage of What You
Eat.

Here's a website that you might find helpful to describe the names
associated with the surgery known as the Duodenal Switch:
http://www.mywls.com/Duodenal_Switch/duodenal_switch.html. Good Luck to
you! <<Message Board: http://www.mywls.com/discus>>>
