Question:
Are BPD/DS post ops allowed to drink water with meals?

With the DS, there's no medical reason not to drink with meals. Since the
DS procedure keeps the pyloric valve intact and functioning normally, food
can't get "washed out" of the stomach, as we sometimes hear about
in the RNY. At 17-months post-op, I drink with my meals on a regular basis,
just like pre-op. Some early post-ops do avoid drinknig with meals for
awhile, since it will fill the tummy faster and hinder the ability to get
enough protein, but this is a temporary phenomena for the DS folks.
