Question:
Is there anyone out there Post-op over 10 yrs or more ?
This has always been a concern of mine, what kind of complications if any has anyone incountered after 5 or more years post-op. Has anyone ask their Dr. what the long term effects on our bodies could be. I want to live to a ripe old age, that's why I'm doing this in the first place. If anyone could share your experence with me I would be greatful. God Bless — Deloris Oneal (posted on March 14, 2001)

Two of my cousins and my late aunt (just died yesterday) had the banding
procedure done about 15 years ago. My cousins and my aunt all maintained
their goal weight - one cousin just gained 10 lbs, but attributes it to her
mother's illness (lung cancer).
A friend of theirs who had it done at the same time, regained about 50 lbs.

Deloris - My best friend had what is similar to the RNY 17 years ago....the
only complication she has suffered is the loss of bone mass - osteoporsis
due to lack of calcium. 17 years ago, they were don't as aware of it as
they are now....her weigh fluctuates about 15 pounds both ways...just
recently she has lost 15 pounds...once things settle down...she will gain
about 7...other than that...she considers is a total success. She is the
one who recommended the surgery to me. I hope this helps. Good Luck,
Karan
