Question:
Has anyone been hypnotised prior to or after surgery?
I have read a few tidbits about people being hypnotised either before or after surgery (for pain control I'm guessing). Has anyone done this or been offered this? — missesrita (posted on February 13, 2001)

I have not yet had surgery, or have I ever had surgery but, I do know
something about self-hypnoisis. I had a lot of difficuly with anxiety and
panic attacks and my therapist taught me self-hypnosis. It works
wonderfully. It takes practice but I can slow my mind and body down to get
back to a calm state. I sometimes use music, I particularly like the
nature sounds CD's with there calming effect. One thing my therapist
taught me was sometimes you have to make the noice outside your head louder
then what is in your head. I used different music for this. I would turn
it up high enough that I could not hear my own thoughts. Believe it or not
it works. Of course I use headphones. haha It use to help in going to
sleep. You might start by getting a tape of relaxation and use it everyday
until you can quickly fall into the relaxed state. When I use them I never
get to the end anymore. I am out like a light. I do plan on using them
when I go for my surgery. I hope this helped.
