Question:
Has anyone had a child after WLS?
complications; problems with malnutrition; premature babies; how many months after WLS?; How much weight did you lose when you became pregnant? Did you gain weight during pregnancy? Did you breast feed? Any feed back will be greatly appreciated! — [Anonymous] (posted on October 13, 2000)

I haven't had the procedure yet, and am not able to have more children, but
my surgeon did say that he had a 571 lb patient who had the surgery, lost
THREE HUNDRED POUNDS, and got pregnant with no problem. WOW!

My friend just had a baby, she is 10yrs. post-op. Her iron was low thru-out
the whole preganancy. She had to take 4 iron pills a day, to keep it from
getting to low. She gained 10-15lbs. during preganancy. She is breast
feeding & has lost all the weight she gained. She weighs less now than
what she did before she got preganat. Her baby weighed 6lbs. & was
healthy. She smoked during the pregnancy, could be a reason for the low
birth weight. She had a very easy delivery. The baby is getting bigger by
the hour.

I had open RNY 12-13-00 and got pregnant in May 2001. I weighed 285 pre op
and about 208 when I found out I was pregnant. I weighed 190 when I
delivered a healthy 8 lb baby boy on 1-29-02. I lost about 20 lbs right
when I delivered and came home around 170. My baby is 6 mos old now and he
is very, very healthy. I still hover around 170, but am nursing and was
instructed not to lose or try to lose til I finish nursing. I am eating a
lot these days to make milk for the baby, so I'm nervous about having to go
on a "diet" again soon. But overall, even if I stay at this
weight I'll be happy. I wear a size 14 now and look normal in clothes. I
would like to have a tummy tuck for my sagging abdomen. Losing all the
weight and having 3 kids over the years, well you can imagine. I was not
planning another pregnancy, but am thrilled and delighted with the outcome.
Good luck to all who are visited by the stork!

I had WLS in August 2001 and I had lost 120 pounds when I got pregnant. I
just had a baby girl in October and I had no problems with the pregnancy
whatsoever. My daughter was born very healthy (8 pounds, 6 ounces)and is
doing great! I did gain weight during the pregnancy - about 35 pounds, but
I lost all of the weight I gained within six weeks after her birth. I did
breastfeed until I went back to work full time (at three months). Good
luck!
