Question:
I am 3 weeks post-op. What else can I eat?
I don't have any interest in eating but I try to force myself because I know I won't get better if I don't. I've been eating applesauce, cottage cheese, havarti cheese, avocados and instant carnation breakfast. I think I'm getting too much fat. Does anyone have any ideas about other things I could try? — C. G. (posted on July 8, 2000)

You from seattle? I lived there until last year when I moved to Florida.
Who did your surgery? Dr Oh and Dr Foxx did mine.
Dr Oh had me one liquids for 6 weeks. I had sugar free jello, broth,
popsycles, water, water, water, juice.
ALL SUGAR FREE.
I could have nothing I had to chew.
Good luck

You might want to try some real protein supplement that will mix with
water. That has minimal calories, sugars, fats and will perk you up better
than moost of what you're eating. I am also a Fox pt, so we are clear only
(except protein & vites) for 4 weeks, then a graduated "mush"
program, such as baked potato insides & lowest sugar yogurts. V8 is
also a harmless little thing to add and it tastes GREAT after all bland
foods.

Carolyn, I practically lived on low-fat refried beans during my
"pureed" days following surgery. You can simply add a little
water to them to make them a bit "mushier" then nuke them for a
minute with a LITTLE bit of lowfat shredded chedder (if you can tolerate
that) and add a bit of salsa "juice" and/or onion powder or other
seasonings. They are quite tasty and both the beans and cheese are high in
protein. Try to get a small electric hand blender (they cost about
$10-$15) that you can use to blend other foods (add a little broth or
water)to a pureed state too and kind of "experiment" a little
with foods that you like. Use your imagination. Good luck, Carolyn, and
God Bless. cj

Carolyn, at 3 weeks I was eating a lot of split pea soup, bean with bacon
soup and fiesta chili beef, all from Campbell's. But that was winter and
you may not want the hot foods now. But then again, they're good sources of
protein and low in fat. I used a hand blender to really mush them up good.

Hi Carolyn, Try getting a protein supplement and drinking at least one
shake per day. You will be surprised how much that will help with energy.
If you are still recuperating from surgery, protein intake increases tissue
building also. Some things I ate right after surgery are: yogurt, chicken
broth, mashed potatoes, baked potatoes, small amount of tuna, few crackers,
frozen yogurt (TCBY). I have real good luck with cheese, corn tortillas,
mashed potatoes, steamed carrots. Hope this helps!

Try KFC mashed potatoes and gravy. It is soft.
