Question:
Bleeding Ulcer

I had a bleeding ulcer in March. Had 6 units of blood. A flare up in June required another unit. It is on the suture line according to dr. Taking Prevacid 3x a day. Is this common or have I done something werong. Almost 9 months post op n 188 lbs down    — snicklefritz (posted on June 15, 2000)

I had the maginal ulcer continually for the first 5 yrs. Or should I say on & off? Previcid did me NO good and I needed to use Prilosec 40mg, 3-4/day. HOWEVER, I had a staple line disruption for at least part of that time. The acid was free flowing between the two compartments. Once revised to a transected pouch (divided), I have had NO ulcer symptoms since then. You asked if you did something wrong. I doubt it. I gave up coffee and all acid producing foods early on, yet there it was. Some form ulcers, some don't. I had a past history of ulcer, as well, so that seemed to be a contributing factor in my case. I hope you are able to get it healed quickly and can move forward without any further ones. My husband had one at 30 days out and no symptoms or problems once it was cleared up.
